Kindergarten Curriculum
Language Arts
The Language Arts program in Kindergarten provides students with a balanced language approach to reading readiness. Using this approach we incorporate both Phonics and Whole Language Instruction methods. The program provides students with an understanding of the following skills: rhyming, sequencing, letter and sound recognition, word recognition, and comprehension.
Math
Kindergartners explore and understand math skills of classification, shape and size(geometry), patterns, graphing, comparing numbers 0-31, measurement, time and money, addition and subtraction by using a variety of manipulative and hands-on techniques.
Manipulative materials used include: pattern blocks, unifix cubes, wooden blocks, geoboards and small collectable objects. Because the materials are real, they engage the student's senses and provide tools for exploration and problem solving.
Bible
During Bible time, kindergartners become acquainted with Old Testament and New Testament events and characters. The children attend weekly chapel services and learn monthly Bible verses.
Science and Social Studies
Science and Social Studies curriculum are theme based with related activities. Kindergartners explore the topics of Self Image, Community Helpers, Holidays, Native Americans, Presidents, Seasons and Weather, The Body, Five Senses, Transportation, The Farm, Animals and Insects.
Physical Education
Various times during the week, students meet with a specialist. The program emphasizes exercising the body and mind, developing large and fine motor skills, exploring body movements, and building skills that use all muscles of the body. Sportsmanship and cooperation are taught through games.
